NESTER WINS! WINS AGAIN!
MARTIN IS CROWNED CHAMP!
The USA Modifieds would see almost 50 cars
make the call to the historic
Winchester
Speedway for the Annual Run For The Gun. The day started out
with former series champion Harold Scott taking fast time in
qualifying with a 16.433 and then Brian Nester drove his number
11 to victory lane in the 6 Lap Dash For Cash presented by
Dietsch Trailer Sales and Meineke for a cool six one hundred
dollar bills!
With the highest car count of all the series
on the premises Winchester Speedway track owner, Charlie Shaw,
would make the announcement that instead of a normal 24 car
starting field they will start 30 cars in the event. Also
during the drivers meeting Shaw told the drivers that he
is pleased to announce that the speedway will add money into the
Modified purses as a show of appreciation for their support.
This is something that is almost unheard of in this economic
times. USA Modified Series owner, Keith Beeching, made the
announcement that he has sold the series to former Angola Motor
Speedway track promoters Wes and Crimson Parrish and long time
race officials Weo and Connie Schweyer. Parrish would
assure the drivers that no major changes will be made to the
series with the exception of renaming the series due to a title
sponsor stepping up for 2012. Dave Muzzillo of Top Speed
Fabrication in Angola, IN has helped in this process with the
naming of the TOP SPEED MODIFIED TOUR. Muzzillo was on
hand at the meeting and was applauded by everyone in attendance
for his support.
As the 50 lap Run for the Gun took the green
flag Bud Perry motored his way to the early lead with Terry
Fisher Jr. in a Coe Motorsports Special dueling for the top
spot. Nester waited patiently as the laps wound down.
Fisher dropped low on Perry going into turn 3 and Nester put his
front bu mper
on the back of Perry to push him down the front stretch.
Fisher faded back into the 3rd position as Nester dropped low
again on Perry and
was able to make his way around for the lead. Nester
grabbed the win to collect the Winchester Trophy and the winners
portion of the purse. Perry held on for second with
Fisher, Joe Axsom and former Run for the Gun Winner and 2010
Series Champion, Brad Springer
finishing in the top 5.
It was a huge night for 22 year old Jonathan
Martin as he was crowned the 2011 USA Modified Champion and will
also be known as the Top Speed Modified Tour defending champion
as we head into 2012.
